What is
Functional Health?
Functional Health is the approach to healthcare that focuses on a natural, holistic approach utilizing a variety of treatment interventions such as chiropractic, acupuncture, neurology, functional medicine, and more. Functional Health is a patient-centered approach, that emphasizes treating the entire patient rather than solely addressing a specific disease process. The goal of Functional Health is to find the root cause of a condition and likewise focuses on optimal function of the human body. This makes it an ideal approach to healthcare and the best option for many chronic health conditions, athletics and sports injury, non-pathological conditions and much more. The Functional Health paradigm can also be utilized to both achieve and maintain optimal health and function.
“It is far more important to know what person the disease has than what disease the person has.”

Client Testimonials
Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a healing science and art that focuses on restoring proper function of the nervous system, and thus, allows the body to heal. This is done via manipulation/adjustments of the joints, particularly the spinal column. These adjustments can be used to help a variety of conditions such as musculoskeletal conditions (pains, headaches, etc.) and are useful when addressing other aspects of health such as organ function and nerve function.
Chiropractic began in America in 1895 and was discovered by D.D. Palmer. The first chiropractic adjustment was given to a man named Harvey Lillard, a janitor who had suffered from an acquired hearing loss. When D.D. Palmer assessed his spine, he came across and area that was clearly under great stress, much different from the rest of the spine. He gave the first chiropractic adjustment, and 2 visits later, Harvey Lillard’s hearing had been restored.
“Look well to the spine for the cause of disease”

Functional Medicine
Functional Medicine is a practice that uses advanced diagnostic testing and a holistic approach in order to get to the root cause of a condition. The goal of functional medicine is to find and address the reason WHY a person’s body and physiology has changed. Functional medicine practitioners focus on treating the whole patient, rather than solely the disease or symptoms. Functional Health of O’Fallon utilizes the most up to date and scientifically advanced testing to bring patients a higher quality of care. These include blood tests, saliva tests, urine tests, assessing reflexes, and in-depth office screenings.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a whole-body treatment technique that has been around for thousands of years. Originating in ancient China, there have now been thousands of scientific studies validating acupuncture with modern technology. It is one of the most commonly requested treatments by patients and for good reason. According to the World Health Organization, acupuncture is a very effective treatment for over 800 different conditions. It uses the body’s meridian pathways to not only restore health, but also maintain it. Acupuncture is known for its use of needles along these meridians to restore proper Qi (pronounced CHEE), and thus, allowing the body to heal. Modern research has shown the stimulation of specific acupuncture points results in neurologic activation of the brain and organ systems.
“I am convinced that acupuncture is going to be one of the greatest contributions that any group of people has made to the future of all medicine, if handled correctly by the people of the Western world.”
Dr. W. Kenneth Riland, Personal Physician to President Nixon
Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology is a system for evaluating body function that is unique from anything else. It uses manual muscle testing as a means of functional neurology interpretation. This type of manual muscle testing has been scientifically validated. This means through the use of Applied Kinesiology, physicians can accurately discover changes in the body to a variety of stimuli such as muscles, joints, nutrition, reflexes, glands and even organs. It is used as a tool in functional evaluation, which is the evaluation of disorders that have their roots in altered body function rather than a physical lesion such as a tumor, etc. Applied Kinesiology has opened the door to understanding functional conditions on a deeper level and is a cornerstone of the Functional Health paradigm. This is more important now than ever due to the growing number of chronic health conditions seen both domestically and internationally.
“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patient in the human frame, diet, and the cause and prevention of disease.”
Thomas Edison
Quantum Neurology™
Quantum Neurology (QN)™ is a type of nervous system rehabilitation. Just as you may need to rehabilitate your ankle muscles after a sprain, your nerves may need rehabilitation as well. This happens for a variety of reasons such as musculoskeletal injuries, head trauma, organ distress, infection, etc. Your nervous system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, cranial nerves, motor nerves, visceral (organ) nerves, and sensory nerves. There are specific ways to assess and correct dysfunctions found in any of these areas. Some of the most common symptoms indicating dysfunction of the nervous system are pain, headaches, numbness, vision or hearing difficulties, attention and behavior issues, neurological tics, post-concussion disorder, reoccurring injuries/injuries resistant to healing, and much more. QN™ utilizes the principal of neurological recognition, achieved with low level light therapy and physical touch to specific reflex locations on the spine. QN™ has been extremely beneficial in helping many patients who were unable to find solutions in the past.
“The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.”

NeuroEmotional Technique
NeuroEmotional Technique (NET) is a mind-body technique that uses a methodology of finding and removing neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress patterns.
Emotional responses are naturally “hard wired” in the body. A stimulus happens, we respond, and then the body should return to normal. Occasionally, however, emotional trauma in the presence of a neurological or meridian deficit can cause a physio-pathological pattern in the body or a NEC that does not resolve itself. NET seeks to normalize this pattern by a physiological change; a result of a physical intervention that is made through cutaneous or spinal accesses to the nervous system.
NET does not make claims as to what may have happened in the past. In NET, all memory events in an NeuroEmotional Complex (NEC) are considered “Emotional Reality” because these events may or may not correspond with actual or historical reality. Essentially, NET is a system of physiological (not psychological) correction that is without extrinsic values to influence the patient’s life.
Resolving these stress patterns (NECs) is done by a series of spinal points or acupuncture points (no needles are used). Again, NET views emotions as physiological, not psychological, and is a tool that can be used to help improve many behavioral and physical conditions. It is an emerging technology based on many scientific principles, and ongoing scientific studies validate the excellent clinical results often observed with NET.
**NET is not psychology or psychiatry, and it does not involve any type of psychotherapy or “talk it out” therapy. If there is a psychological aspect present, this should be addressed by an appropriate healthcare professional, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.**
